| We place most of our Labradoodle and Goldendoodle breeding dogs in what we call guardian homes. It is a kind of 'dog-sharing' arrangement where we retain ownership of the dog for a period of years, usually 2-5, during which the dog lives with the guardians as their family pet. It comes to our house for breeding, or to have puppies, but other than that it lives with it's guardians. We pay for most vet visits and all expenses related to breeding, the guardians pay only for expenses related to daily upkeep. This allows our Labradoodles and Goldendoodles to live their lives as pampered pets, and allows us to have genetic diversity in our breeding program that would otherwise be very limited by the number of Labradoodles and Goldendoodles we are able to care for well at home. At the end of the contract period, we pay to have the dog neutered and ownership transfers to the guardians. Basically, families that become guardians earn a Goldendoodle or Labradoodle through sweat equity! We are VERY selective about the families we chose to work with. Among other things, families must agree to live within 150 miles of Columbus, OH for the duration of the contract. If you think you are interested in this kind of arrangement, please email me to discuss it! These Westwood dogs are in loving guardian homes: |
